Profile

Dr Pijush Sarker is a highly experienced palliative care specialist with international credentials and a deep commitment to holistic, compassionate care. He holds specialist qualifications from the UK, Singapore, and Australia, and is currently a Staff Specialist at both Chris O’Brien Lifehouse and Concord Repatriation General Hospital in NSW.

With a career spanning over 15 years, Dr Sarker brings a wealth of clinical expertise in managing complex palliative cases across hospital, community, and outpatient settings. His professional interests include managing psychoexistential distress, enhancing quality of life in serious illness, and supporting patients and families through meaningful advance care planning.

At Macquarie Towns Specialist Centre, Dr Sarker will run a monthly Palliative Care Clinic on the last Wednesday of each month from 1–5pm. His clinic aims to:

  • Manage distressing symptoms such as pain, breathlessness, and fatigue
  • Ensure the best possible quality of life for patients with serious or terminal illnesses
  • Address psychological, emotional, and existential distress
  • Facilitate compassionate and personalised advance care planning conversations

Dr Sarker is also actively involved in medical education and has presented internationally on palliative care innovations, including the use of teleconferencing for remote learning and strategies to support healthcare teams. He is a co-author of the book chapter “Ethics, Consent and Communication Challenges” in Interventional Radiology in Palliative Care (Springer, 2021).
